Hogs Take a Breather After Monday Slide

At the close for the Tuesday session, lean hogs were mixed within 15 cents of UNCH, save for a 52 cent gain in May. USDA’s National Average Base Hog price was up another $1.01 cents this afternoon to $101.55. The CME Lean Hog Index was up another 52 cents to $101.89 on 4/9.

Pork cutout futures were mixed, with gains of 32 to 50 cents and losses of 5 to 22 cents. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout Value was up a sharp $2.39 in the AM report to $112.49. USDA estimated the federally inspected hog slaughter for Tuesday at 476,000 head, leaving the week’s total at 964,000 head.

Jun 21 Hogs  closed at $106.175, up $0.025

Apr 21 Pork Cutout  closed at $112.000, down $0.250
